Safety

At Wilson Utility Helicopters, safety is in everything we do. We incorporate it into all aspects of our daily operations to ensure the well-being of our employees and customers. Our commitment to safety starts with our management team who hosts weekly safety meetings to address any issues or hazards involving our operations. This is an open forum meeting where we encourage all employees to participate and feel comfortable speaking up to voice their concerns.

At the heart of our safety culture is our Safety Management System (SMS), a formal, organization-wide approach to identifying hazards and managing risks. The SMS includes a reporting system where employees can easily submit a report for any safety concerns. Our safety team reviews these reports to determine the necessary mitigation steps for any associated hazards or risks.

Before any job begins, we conduct a thorough risk assessment and tailboard to identify hazards, confirm job task details, and provide a solid understanding of the safety plan. Work does not begin until everyone feels comfortable and confident the work can be performed in the safest way possible. We strive to have a zero-incident workplace.

In an effort to promote continuous improvement and elevate helicopter safety standards, we are proud to dedicate resources and personnel to industry programs including:

  •  Vertical Association International – Utilities Patrol and Construction Committee (UPAC)
  • UPAC Subcommittee – Rapid Refueling Safety Procedures
  • UPAC Safety Guide for Helicopter Operations
  • IEEE ESMOL Subcommittee – Recommended Practices for Using Helicopters in a Wire Environment
